Most remote database jobs are for database administrators. A database administrator (DBA) is responsible for maintaining the performance, security, and integrity of a database. They are usually also involved in the development and planning of the database structure. Oracle, MySQL, SQL Server, and MS Access are some of the most popular database platforms. DBAs will need to also have a command of the SQL language.
